Tourism Committee

The Tourism Committee is comprised of members who are interested in bringing visitors to the Seacoast area. We work together to promote the areas as a destination and to ensure that the Chamber represents member views on local and state issues.

Mission Statement
To promote, develop and coordinate tourism/visitation, and create an awareness and understanding of tourism's effect on, and enhancement of, the local economy and residents' quality of life.
Goals & Objectives
  1. Generate awareness of Greater Portsmouth as a destination and increase visitation
  2. Enhance the "visitor experience"

  1. Educate members and residents about the economic importance of tourism and foster appreciation
  2. Encourage members to become engaged in the organization and its goals
  3. Educate on the importance and effect of working together to promote tourism/promote collaboration/form a united front
  4. Generate funding for tourism initiatives
    1. Capitalize on JPP opportunities
    2. Increase and build on "pay-to-play" initiatives for members.
  5. Become involved with projects that impact the city
  6. Advocate to the city and state governments on issues that impact tourism businesses
  7. Enhance web site so that members may enter and update data.
Current Projects
The Tourism committe has just approved the marketing initiatives for FY 2004. We will be applying for a Joint Promotional Program grant for matching funds from the NH Division of Travel and Tourism Development. Then, members will be asked to support the initiatives that they feel will best help them achieve their business goals. For the first time we have included television advertising in the Boston metropolitan area. Additionally, we will be running ads in Yankee Magazine, Yankee Travel Guide and on their website. We also plan to promote the Guide to the Seacoast in the State's winter and spring insert in major northeastern newspapers in the US and Canada. Trade shows and direct mail are a part of the marketing plan as well.
Meeting time: 8 a.m. the first Wednesday of the month in the Chamber conference room.
